Steve Jobs
Simplicity is the ultimate sophistication.
Co-founder of Apple. Founder of NeXT & Pixar. Believer in the intersection of technology and the liberal arts. I want to put a ding in the universe.
Here's to the crazy ones
— The misfits. The rebels. The troublemakers. The round pegs in the square holes.
Design is not just what it looks like and feels like. Design is how it works.
My passion has been to build an enduring company where people were motivated to make great products. Everything else was secondary. Sure, it was great to make a profit, because that was what allowed you to make great products. But the products were the motivation, not the profits.
The Intersection
It is in Apple's DNA that technology alone is not enough—it's technology married with liberal arts, married with the humanities, that yields us the results that make our heart sing.
Focusing is about saying no
Getting fired from Apple was the best thing that could have ever happened to me.The heaviness of being successful was replaced by the lightness of being a beginner again.
NeXT
Built the black cube. The computer was ahead of its time—object-oriented programming, Display PostScript, and the machine Tim Berners-Lee used to invent the World Wide Web. It became the foundation for macOS.
Developed NeXTSTEP OS (the grandfather of iOS)
Created the first Object-Oriented Database
Sold to Apple in 1997, marking my return

Story is King
Pixar Animation
Bought the graphics group from Lucasfilm. We didn't just make cartoons; we married art with bleeding-edge computer graphics to tell stories that mattered. 'Toy Story' changed cinema forever.
Executive Producer of Toy Story (1995)

We didn't just want to make a phone. We wanted to make a device that we loved to use.
Macworld 2007
Every once in a while, a revolutionary product comes along that changes everything. Today Apple is going to reinvent the phone. We are getting rid of the stylus. We are using the best pointing device in the world—our fingers.

Think Different
To me, marketing is about values. This is a very complicated world, it's a very noisy world. And we're not going to get a chance to get people to remember much about us. So we have to be really clear on what we want them to know about us.

Restored Apple's soul before the iMac launch
Simplicity is the ultimate sophistication.I was influenced heavily by the Bauhaus movement and my travels to India and Kyoto. The simpler you can make it, the more powerful it becomes.
Calligraphy
I dropped out of Reed College so I could drop into the classes that looked interesting. Calligraphy taught me about serif and sans-serif typefaces. Ten years later, we designed it all into the Mac. It was the first computer with beautiful typography.

Kyoto - Where complexity resolves into simplicity
On Music
The Beatles were the ultimate business model. Four guys who kept each other's kind of negative tendencies in check. They balanced each other and the total was greater than the sum of the parts.

One More Thing...
Your time is limited, so don't waste it living someone else's life. Don't be trapped by dogma. Have the courage to follow your heart and intuition.
